Set to open in 2017, the Museum of modern and Contemporary Art of Nusantara, or MACAN Museum has finally revealed its design to the public.
MACAN will be the first museum of modern art and contemporary Indonesia. The plans of this public space has been underway since 2013, and will allow people to be engaged in an interactive learning experience. Founded by philanthropist and collector of Indonesian art Adikoesomo Haryanto, the institution should be a significant contribution to the growing art scene in Indonesia.
"For over a decade, I dreamed of creating a museum for the people of Indonesia, and to our visitors and friends from abroad" , Adikoesomo said as reported by Artnet News.
with a team of experts from the arts industry, the MACAN museum will be helmed by director and senior curator Thomas J. Berghuis, who has taken on the role of curator of Chinese art at the Guggenheim museum in New York.
"It is an exciting and productive process of working together with designers who not only build museums, but develop spaces experiential for people to connect and engage deeply with art, "Berghuis said of his willingness to work for MACAN.
The museum's 4,000 square meter will be located in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. MACAN is designed by the firm based in London MET Studio Design.
