Meet Audrey Soraya Rodriguez Rincon, a beautiful mother of two with over 20 years experience in the world of healthy living. This health coach is new to Jakarta, but feels the warmth exuded by people in the city.
Hi, Audrey! Where are you?
I am British, but for the last five years, I have conducted my business in Mexico. Indonesia and Colombia are both aligned in a similar region regarding the equator, so I'm used to the humidity and heat, even the occasional sadness as now.
When did you move to Jakarta? What was the reason for the move?
My husband and I moved to Jakarta there are about eight months from Mexico. He was transferred here with his company and I followed along. Before that, I lived most of my life in Colombia, then briefly in Bolivia. This is the first time I went too far in Colombia.
Do you have children? Did they move with you to Jakarta
I have two children ?; Isabella is 19 and starting college in Mexico, Sebastian is 26 and started working after graduating from university in Colombia.
What were you doing in Mexico?
I have a counseling program, much like a clinic, health, fitness and lifestyle own eating all integrated into a well -being center. I like to keep busy with the development of the program, but unfortunately I had to close because of my move. I really miss. Now I'm looking for opportunities to do something similar in Jakarta. I also have the experience of being a television presenter, model, actress, dancer and I studied cosmetology and nutrition, so I am not opposed to me if someone were to approach a health program to the television. The holistic approach to wellness is my passion and I want to share my knowledge with people because when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good you look good.
Tell me a little program that you mentioned, what was his name?
The clinic was called Figura Wellness Spa. He provided related to health of all, skin treatment, body care and fitness, weight loss training and a healthy cuisine. My philosophy built around the idea that fitness, aesthetics and food are all connected, that's why I wanted to provide services in a comprehensive way through clinical programs. With my staff, I do the cooking demonstrations, treatments, cosmetology and management of the place. I am a fitness instructor and certified - for TRX, Pilates, personal training Spinning, etc. -. So I teach classes as well
You were quite the busy lady! So what would you prefer to be known; an entrepreneur, model, fitness instructor or actress?
All of the above!
Who were your clients?
More women than men, but the company is working on a mouth-to-mouth method; word would travel fast and that's how I got customers. I charge them according to the amount of work I have to do with them.
You were also a television presenter. Do you see yourself entering the TV business in Indonesia? How do you feel about the Indonesian shows?
I'd like to do something with the Indonesian television, perhaps combining it with my fitness background, since all the healthy lifestyle trend is in high demand in Jakarta now . I do not look novelas in Indonesia, I mostly tune Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
Jakarta has been enjoyable for you?
Here, people are full of goodness, really. When I walk, people always smile and say hello to me. Sometimes they are shy, but all the people are so nice here. I like this. I love Bali and dream of going to Yogyakarta, Lombok and Flores. When I arrived in a new country, I try to see and appreciate the culture.
How do you keep busy Jakarta?
I have a YouTube channel where I record training videos and healthy cooking demonstrations. I used to have a team to help me with the cameras, but now I set up the tripod, save and upload it myself. Sometimes I am also invited to teach the Rumba class in a gym in Jakarta.
Fitness goes hand in hand with a good diet, do you have a particular to recommend? What to eat less and be Indonesians what is your favorite Indonesian food?
I have a problem with the word "diet", it gives an impression of boringness and blandness; it really depends on how you prepare food and portion control. Many Indonesians eat five dishes between 3 people, which is too much. Genetic people in Indonesia can probably support this kind of eating - Indonesians are naturally small. But looking at the life expectancy of only 60 years nationally, perhaps we need to change the way we eat; many people eat too much fried and starchy foods.
I like cooking nasi goreng and spaghetti with my own recipe. I prefer organic products and put more vegetables in my kitchen. To my surprise (and pleasure) I can find everything you need for my kitchen in Jakarta; flour almond wheat and soy milk.
are you used to speaking Indonesian now?
The first week I was here, it was just terrible, I did not speak a word of Indonesia. I now take lessons and pick up fairly quickly. But this experience has taught me to be better prepared; my husband could be transferred to another country in the future, I have to be more aggressive in learning a new language before moving to a new country.
What is a distinctive thing about Jakarta you found in your eight months here?
I can not drive here, I miss driving my truck. Traffic is impossible. Other than the channels being on the other side, you have a different mentality driving. There are also no sidewalks, so I can not walk freely. I think the state of the traffic is quite gila here.
What is your fitness regime like? Jakarta is a city suitable for your opinion?
I work at the gym in my apartment. I always workout in the morning and my diet is different every day. Normally, I work a little weight and upper body workout the next day I would do 20 minutes of running followed by Thera-band exercises, then the next day only or Pilates workout Insanity. I always try to do something different every day, never repetitive, that's the secret. Sometimes an hour of treadmill is too boring. I prefer a more functional and efficient performance compared to many muscles. I rarely use the machines, I like using the weight of my body. I see many people in Jakarta working now, which is good, but I did not participate in marathons.
Everything is now online. Do you have plans on expanding your Youtube channel?
Yes, and I want to make it more interactive; if anyone has seen my video training, I want them to be able to contact me so I can make an exercise plan or diet for that particular person. I also have other views and likes, maybe if people know more about me, then the figures to go up. I promise to upload more videos soon.
If I may say, you do not look up to your age. What is your secret to staying young
The secret is simple ?; healthy food, be happy, more sex and exercise. The most important thing is to eat the right foods and exercise, then comes night creams and tastes.
