Clean Up Day Kemang with Grandkemang Hotel
On April 19 e forces Grandkemang Hotel (part of Mesa hotels and Resorts) and clean up Day Jakarta joined to clean Jl. Kemang Raya in Kemang, South Jakarta. 140 volunteers showed up to start picking up the 7-9am waste along the major roads of Grandkemang Hotel Jl. Taman Kemang, to McDonalds and back. The volunteers included staff Pop Kemang Hotel, Arion Swiss-Belhotel Kemang, Kemang Fave Hotel and Starbucks, as well as enthusiasts Clean Up Day and Jakarta Grandkemang Hotel staff. 120 waste bags were collected in the course of two hours.
The purpose of Kemang Clean Up Day was to raise awareness on the problem of litter in a trendy neighborhood of Jakarta, which surprisingly still a lot of litter on sidewalks, as well as to educate volunteers about recycling . Volunteers as they separated waste collected in bags of recyclable and non-recyclable. Recyclables were collected and taken to Jakarta Project Green for sorting and sale of recycling plants, the benefits that will support Project Green Jakarta, and non-recyclable waste were collected and properly disposed further.
"We all always clean in the hotel, so why do not we start doing something to clean up our community?" Said Tamie Sri Utami, Director of Marketing Hotels and Resorts Mesa. "Picking up trash made us feel that we need to be more responsible for what we throw away. We were surprised to have volunteers from as far as Cikarang, Ciputat and Depok who came all the way to Kemang at 6:30 am to clean with us. "
