Sky Lounge at the Mercure, SLAM, is on the 19th floor of the newly opened Mercure Simatupang. Slam is a bar on the living roof that has an outdoor section and an air conditioned room. The outdoor section is a mixture of styles that results in funky and modern. Comfy contemporary rattan chairs juxtaposed with mood lighting, graffiti panels on top of two side walls connected by a wall of windows and a traditional bar with dark wood gives the space outside of the hip, young and funky atmosphere . Behind the bar is the air-conditioned lounge, reminds a cigar room, the furniture is chic with a denim seater statement in the corner nestled between the view of the outskirts of Jakarta. Attention to detail and a passion for fashion and design can be felt from Slam. I love uniforms Slam: a black felt, slim beige pants, thick straps and a black short-sleeved collared shirt, which reminds me Clockwork Orange meets the era of Prohibition meeting skinny jeans. The staff is very friendly, speak perfect English and are happy to chat or give their two cents if you are a bit lost direction. To summarize Slam in three words :. Eclectic, funky and friendly
Slam offers the same menu as the low Grafitti restaurant, international cuisine, healthy options and Asian selections, but it is served in the version of room service to keep food affected by the shuttle up to 19 floors. If you are looking for a bar experience and do not want a full meal, they also offer bar snacks. We sat in the living room to have our dinner and ordered to start mocktails, Sunset and I Joker. Sunset is made with fresh passion fruit, syrup of passion fruit, orange and garnished juice with soda water, and I Joker is made of chopped fresh apples, kiwi muddled, syrup kiwi and again in head with soda water. The mocktails were fresh and fruity, and probably two of your five a day. We then had the salmon in pastry, accompanied by white wine sauce, fried vegetables and thin. I could see why the salmon en croute is a popular dish. The salmon was cooked well, fresh basil mixed with breadcrumbs crust gave a fresh taste and a hint of green which was beautiful against the orange salmon. Vegetables, cauliflower, carrots, green beans and baby corn, tasted like they were bleached and then threw in garlic infused oil. The white wine sauce was great, I got it as a soup. It was creamy and full flavored with fresh notes of lemon, a truly wonderful sauce. Then we had some appetizers - fish balls, chicken wings and Maki roll. The fish balls are homemade and beaten. The chicken wings were fresh rosemary instead of dried rosemary gives a more intense flavor, a nice little gourmet touch to bar snacks. Maki roll had vegetables, namely red pepper with a dusting of tobiko on the outside.
For our after dinner drink, we moved from the lounge to the outdoor space. Fed, full and free, I got a cheap thrill of watching the traffic crawl riddled roads and enjoying myself, waiting on our drinks, instead of one of the victims of this traffic jam. We had decided on a J-tini and Mexican dragon. The J-tini is a mixture of Jack Daniels and Sweet and Sour. The Mexican Dragon is made from tequila, red dragon fruit and Cointreau. The J-tini was tangy and fresh, garnished with a mint leaf young. The Mexican Dragon was sweet and slightly tart. I would have loved to try more cocktails but drink a school night is generally not the best idea.
