Melanie is the creative founder of motion Fitness studio in Petitenget and Canggu Avocado Café. As the first choice for . fitness in Bali, Melanie is known internationally for its unique approach to health solutions and food. Its slogan is "Keep Energy in Motion!
You were born and raised in Germany, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Health Academy and Fitness in Cologne as fitness and specialist nutrition, graduated in 2006. That same year, you came here in Bali. Is that still your plan?
Yes! I had been here four times and decided this was where I wanted to live and raise our son, Louis, who at five approaching school age. As a surfer, my husband shared my love for this island, so we had always planned to come here on my degree.
What is your philosophy for a healthy life?
My philosophy for the overall well-being is happiness! To be healthy and happy, keep moving, mentally and physically. Keep your brain working in reading, writing and learn, learn, learn! Learn a language. Be creative and learn a new or traditional craft, paint or draw. Our slogan is "Keep Energy in Motion" because it says it all. Use and find your potential is moving on all levels.
What is the greatest challenge to stay fit in our society?
One of the biggest challenges in the world is alcohol. It is commonly accepted to drink alcohol every day and that is simply not a healthy choice. It is awash in our global society through the media that it is a civilized part of modern life. It is manufactured and sold widely and more consumed, causing many physical and social ills. Another at the expense of health is fast food / packaged. You see the results in Indonesia with the introduction of these foods. Obesity and diabetes are common in a society that did not have these problems there 20 years.
People consume too many carbohydrates and fats. The modernization of food and mass marketing has created a new culture of unhealthy food. If Indonesians have returned to their roots and traditionally ate, they become healthier. The diet there is a generation consisting of rice and vegetables with small portions of protein such as fish or meat. juice and fresh krupuks were snack foods. Indonesians now have developed addictions to foods mainly because of the widespread use of MSG and other chemicals used in packaged instant foods.
Do you think the food and fitness should be taught in schools?
I think it's important as diet and fitness are taught in all schools. Not like math or English, but it should be part of the curriculum. At least once a week to teach children about cooking and eating the right foods. It is important to teach the positive effects of proper food on the growth and health against the harmful effects of chemicals and MSG. It should be studied and discussed, as most schools teach and talk about protecting our environment, which is actually related to a healthy diet.
How diet affects the environment?
Using packaged foods creates a new type of waste and we see everywhere. The direct effects of the modern diet can be seen on a beach walk. More food is processed food less it. Healthy food choices lead to a healthier environment. We know the impact of meat industries and fishing on the environment (greenhouse effect) may be greater than the impact of fossil fuels, so if you choose to eat meat or fish, be aware quality and where it comes from.
How was established lawyer?
Counsel came there about a few years precisely because of the issues we are discussing. I worked with people who wanted to create a balanced lifestyle. Nutrition plays a key role in our lives. I wanted to create a space where customers and the public can come and know what they are eating is good, clean and healthy food. I always had a passion for food and a gift for the manufacture of super fun healthy food! It's great to see people like to eat because it tastes good; knowing that it will also contribute to good health. I love creating new recipes. I just make cookies that are better than junk food! Lawyer has been successful since its inception and people learn that you can have your tastes satisfied no guilt; the food is supposed to be fun while it makes us healthier!
What are the basic rules for a healthy lifestyle?
Drink plenty of water or water of the coconut. Eat regularly; try to set a timetable food if you do not go without eating, then compensate by eating whatever is convenient and fast. Do not take life (or plan) so seriously; it leads to stress. Wake up and laugh. Laughter is the best medicine!
What is the minimum exercise we should do?
In general, the minimum exercise we should do is 3-4 hours per week of cardio such as biking, running, swimming, dancing, and two to three hours per week strength training and stretching. This is a good basis. After three weeks, your body wakes up and responds by balancing the metabolism. If you do the workout time, you will save time. Your energy levels increase. The more you do, the more you get done! People who are successful business people at rock stars usually follow an exercise regime. Good exercise gets the blood flowing to your brain and increases oxygen levels in the blood. natural appetite will come back, or if you tend to overeat, your appetite will decrease. Your sense of well-being will increase as your activity level increases. It is a simple fact.
The body wants to be in motion, which balance the chemicals in the brain and activity of positive brain increases.

What measures do you suggest are the key to our health in the current context?
We live in a toxic world. To fight against the effects of our environment, I recommend that you do a detox twice a year. We offer four detox programs according to the needs. We must cleanse our systems regularly to fight against the results of the toxins in the air and water.
Get off the grid one day a week; turn off your phone. See the humor in your problems. We think we have time, but it is a precious commodity; make good use. Take this time in the morning before going to focus on what is important. Take time to do things you like. For me, it is my family, my son, rock climbing, surfing and music.
