The German state of Bavaria is not only known for its delicious apple strudel and cream the same name for dessert, it is also a land of beer and various exciting meat dishes. Jakarta has a few choices of German restaurants, but offers quite authentic Bavarian dining experience, including a thorough introduction to the culture of beer is Paulaner Brauhaus.
Paulaner Brauhaus is a large property in the chain, with branches around the world. The Jakarta branch opened in 2009, and was recently a major renovation object and finally reopened in November 2013. The place is run by the Kempinski Hotel, where he has already been installed; Now it is located in the prestigious Grand Indonesia shopping mall. One reason for the renovation is the expansion of the size; Now, the articulation of the third floor has a large space, with a maximum occupancy of 400 people and an outdoor patio.
Around noon, Paulaner is attended by senior executives - whether local or expatriate - many neighboring hotels and offices. As it is located in the heart of Jakarta, Paulaner is convenient and very accessible for a long lunch on a few cold beers. On weekends, the place turns into a family space, especially for a Sunday evening lunch with the children.
The experience of German food in Jakarta can sometimes still be considered a very narrow building the eyes of local Indonesians; many still adopt the stigma that German restaurants offer nothing but beer and just run-of-the-mill sausages. My visit to Paulaner Brauhaus proved otherwise. Not only will customers expatriates to local Indonesians, the quality of food and variety of food is commendable. I entered the restaurant with the idea that it would be a full-on sausage fest but I'm glad to find a varied list of options, including chicken, fish and even vegetarian choices. For drinks, beer is served with great respect.
Paulaner Brauhaus take their beer very seriously. With the carefully picked wheat, hops, yeast and a little water, Paulaner brew their own beer. The brewery of the house is located on the premises. The distribution system uses tap anticorrosive pipes placed around the restaurant. Freshly brewed beer is unfiltered project and preservatives. While questioning the philosophy and process of beer, I came to find that Paulaner offers a tour of a brewery. The brewmaster takes a group of people down to the brewery and demonstrates its "magic" in the creation of fine quality beer, lager, etc. a nice excursion for curious drinkers.
The Paulaner beer comes in your choice of sizes, from a glass sampler to great pints. Be not much of a beer drinker, the Radler - a popular mixture Munich beer base - was an instant favorite. Composed of beer and lemonade, the Radler is soft, but still maintains the typical bitterness of beer. Among the aromatic and flavored beers, strawberry and lychee beer are also remarkable. Strawberry pink beer is very refreshing with a hint of fruity flavor; quite entertaining to the palace. Although lychee beer is not my favorite among them, I enjoyed the light body and crisp fizz it has. A glass sampler for Radler proved insufficient; we ordered more. A sampler platter is offered Rp.90K, which includes three house specialty beers.
The beers mentioned above can be adapted to more female customers, or those who are not big beer drinkers. Paulaner selection of house brewed beers did not stop there, of course; options range from light to dark beer and respond to an array of customer preferences. final Munich Hell Paulaner lager (from Rp.80K for the 0.3L glass) is full-bodied, lively and simple. The fizz is bright and fair in the body of the lager. The Dunkel beer (of Rp.80K for the 0.3L glass) is dark, malty still has a soft voice and of earth; it seems to go like a drink after dinner.
Their food is not left out either. The owner and hotel management emphasize the freshness of the beer and food, hence the in-house brewery and fresh products used for food. The Paulaner tray (Rp.275K) is a signature dish, consisting of Debrecener Nuremberger and sausages, Vienna sausages, ham hocks, smoked pork chop, meatloaf, potato puree and sauerkraut, which are all homemade cooking Paulaner. Sauerkraut is a big consideration - it offers a pungent flavor - the rest of the meat components. It is quite the tray proteins.
My partner and I also ate the chicken "hunter style" (Rp.125K), accompanied by creamy mushroom sauce and potatoes fried with onions. This dish is rich and heavy, better tasting lunch. I wanted to try an unusual order, therefore, in a German restaurant, I opted for the roast salmon fillet (Rp.165K), Paulaner is convinced that if a dish justice not pork, it could take almost everything off . And he did! The salmon was tender and the sauce infused capers added a nice tangy zest. One thing worth an honorable mention is the mashed potato; using just spices and dairy products resulted in a smooth, tasty, melt in your mouth mashed potatoes. For dessert, a delicious pancake deconstructed the "pancake Emperor" (Rp.55K), delighted the palate with aromas of caramel, strawberry sauce and cinnamon infused Applesauce; a must-try! Paulaner to portions are quite large and sharing is encouraged, especially for Paulaner plateau. All-pork dishes are the container clearly labeled on the menu.
Thanks to the addition of glass windows on a corner of the dining area which open at night, you can attend with night lights Sudirman while sipping on some cold. This section of the restaurant is non-smoking friendly while part of the opposite end of the place is non-smoking. Located just off Paulaner is Kempi Deli (opening soon), which will be a new addition to the scene of the breakfast area. This particular corner of the mall will be very busy soon; it is best to make a reservation for a large table at Paulaner.
Customers are happy to find a range of promotional prices here, as their happy hour, where your second beer is on the house (Monday - Friday 4-7pm) and lunch economic power - Rp.145K .. bring to the table an aperitif, a bowl of soup, a main dish and a dessert. (Monday - Thursday 11:00 to 2:00 p.m.)
The Bavarian dressed staff are very quick and friendly. When customers come to 8.30-11pm (daily except Monday) when live music is offered, "a beer" is the magic mantra. There is no need pretentiousness here, just good food, good beer and a good time.
