If you try to wean yourself off of alcohol, maybe it's best you stay away from this place very pro- alcohol Kemang which just opened on April 28, aptly named Alcoholics Bar & Grill. Led by the duo, the chef Patrick and his wife Judith, they wanted to create something truly unique in which everything served on the menu is cooked with alcohol. Their bi-line? "The only place you can eat alcohol."
This place may be small but it is comfortable, consisting of two floors; down the bar with a few tables to sit upstairs and a dining room with a few booths, dining tables and a bar-style corner. The interior is black and white with white brick walls, black ceiling, black leather booths and large posters with slogans such as alcohol "Wine, Dine and Sixty-Nine" decorate the walls. The staff is friendly and speak English well.
"I love cooking and drinking," said Patrick head, "that's where the idea for Alcoholics Bar and Grill has come." Chef Patrick has worked in F & B in Sydney for many years and created the menu itself by trial and error at home. Judith has argued all the way and looks after marketing, customers and more.
So what's on the menu? Their signature Drunken Steak offers a choice of steak, Rib Eye, T-Bone, filet, Filet Mignon and Lamb Chop and you can choose your poison, so to speak, the infusion of sauce: Bintang, Guinness, red wine, brandy or Jack Daniels. Their signature dish of Chicken, Beer Can Chicken, is a whole chicken rottiserrie literally steamed on a can of beer and served with chips, mushy peas and salad. This dish takes an hour to cook exactly 175 degrees Celsius and a chef comes out to cut the chicken for you. The menu is not vegetarian-friendly, but you can make requests, and something like a Ratatouille can be whipped for you.
Other creative dishes on the menu include the Mini Burger Guinness which was a hefty blow, Salmon tartar red wine vinaigrette, garlic prawns and Brandy Nachos with spicy salsa tequila . Even the desserts are all made with alcohol. Our favorites were homemade Baileys Ice Cream and Chocolate Kahlua Mousse.
Ok, so you can not actually get drunk off the food that has been cooked with alcohol, but you can certainly their cocktails and shooters who are seriously strong . I speak two sips and you feel go to your head. We were given a Bob Marley shooter that was tricolored and a rum concoction, peppermint Bowls, banana liqueur and strawberry syrup. Then the barman Patrick has created a new shooter composed of Bols Peppermint, Baileys and Grand Marnier which was named after us - Flaming Expat
During the weekend, the space is cleared on the second floor the DJ booth to have a boogie to house music. This is a perfect pre-club joint. Promotional prices will until May 13 and you can get 10% extra on your bill during this period. Chef Patrick and Judith are keen on introducing their concept to expatriates, so do not come if you're curious, but just be careful not to trip on the stairs if you've had too much. Their takeaway bags have "I AM NOT DRUNK" printed on them to be sure to show your significant other if you get in trouble for staggering through the door later.
