Jakarta may not seem much of a foreign point of view, but for us who live here, we know that hidden in the walls of the city are small cold pockets in places most people do not think to look. We found a bit of French art nouveau bistro nestled in the back of a modern building on Jalan Kemang Raya behind an interior design shop - who not think to look there
With high ceilings and lots of natural light, the interior of Madeleine has left no detail overlooked. Designed by Aileen Rahman, mother of DJ Riri, a famous Indonesian DJ who has been on the circuit for over 20 years and is by chance one of the owners, this artsy bistro feels a bit like a hip loft conversion. The floors are concrete and dotted with fewer new-looking carpet and the dining room is made of wooden tables and chairs and sofas adorned with soft cushions in bright colors perfect for a coffee break or just to hang out, who Jakartans do best. Frames of all sizes adorn the walls, inspired by the affinity that Paris has for frames and potted plants oversized light at night to give the bistro a seepage whatever -. Best enjoyed with friends
So why come here? The menu is traditional French cuisine and Indonesian food with a French flare. DJ Riri says they do not want to be a gourmet restaurant, you can enjoy their friendly and hilarious director of operations and / or "We are a serious bistro where you can dine casually and enjoy fine cuisine." Maitre d 'Susilo who speaks very good English and are more than happy to tell you all about each dish on the menu in detail. Signature dishes of foie gras with apples Caramelized Vol au Vent Fruit Poultry Sea and ballotine with porcini mushrooms and beef tenderloin with Porto sector. From homemade bread with delicious butter of herbs, we sampled some of the delights on offer.
Seafood Vol au Vent is a puff pastry with spinach sauce and fresh salmon, mussels, shrimp and squid on top and tastes were a mix of crunchy, creamy, fresh and tasty. We also tried their views on the classic Caesar salad that was a surprising touch of dill, adding a freshness to what can often be an indigestible salad.
By sector, discount Pineapple Sorbet served to cleanse the palate and this was followed by the signing of Stuffed Beef Porto. This steak was soft, juicy and sweet, perfectly seared and rested that caught all the moisture and flavor and was presented rested on top of a bed of chopped broccoli and accompanied by fragrant red wine reduction that was tasty but not overbearing with a nice tartness of complimenting the caramelized shallots.
For the pasta, we sampled the Gnocchi Homemade gnocchi of potatoes cooked home and dressed with a creamy mushroom sauce with portobello pine nuts and sliced mushrooms, tasty with a twist perfectly cut cream. All dishes are beautifully presented. Of course we had to try a desert and cracked our way in a Crème Brûlée revealing a thick and creamy delight infused with real vanilla beans and served with pumpkin seed brittle, sliced strawberries and raspberry jelly. Delicious.
Prices are a bit expensive, but that is because everything is homemade and most of the imported ingredients. "We could use local products, but it would compromise the taste," said Susilo with a smile.
